EnGarde Highlights Police-Focused Armor and European Manufacturing at Enforce Tac

As the European law enforcement equipment market continues to evolve, Dutch body armor manufacturer EnGarde is emphasizing lightweight protection, police-specific design, and European manufacturing. At Enforce Tac 2026, company representatives Mr. Edgar Stek, CEO, and Mrs. Marije Poelsma, Operations Manager, discussed both the company’s approach to personal protection and the broader trends shaping the industry.

For EnGarde, returning to Enforce Tac reflects the event’s transformation into a major platform for police and security professionals. Edgar recalled that the show’s early years were far more modest.

“The first time we went to Enforce Tac, it was really a small niche thing next to the IWA show,

he said. “It was like one day and then you had the IWA show.”

Since then, the exhibition has grown significantly, attracting a broader range of defense and law enforcement stakeholders. With the event now standing as a dedicated industry platform, EnGarde chose to re-establish a direct presence to engage more closely with customers and end users.

Focus on Law Enforcement Protection

While some body armor manufacturers primarily target military programs, EnGarde’s portfolio is strongly oriented toward police and security forces. The company develops concealable and overt armor systems designed to meet the realities of everyday law enforcement operations.

For police officers, protection requirements often differ substantially from those of soldiers. Equipment must provide reliable ballistic resistance while remaining comfortable enough for long shifts and routine patrol duties.

This operational environment drives many of EnGarde’s design decisions. Lightweight materials, ergonomic carriers, and discreet configurations are critical factors in determining whether armor is worn consistently by officers in the field.

European manufacturingIn addition to its law enforcement focus, EnGarde has built a significant presence in the journalist protection segment, supplying body armor to the majority of Dutch journalists as well as a growing number of international media professionals and NGOs operating in high-risk environments. This dual-use focus of both police and press has increasingly influenced product development priorities.

EnGarde’s experience supplying journalists has introduced additional design considerations. Unlike uniformed officers, journalists often require low-visibility protection that can be worn discreetly in volatile environments. This includes coverage for scenarios ranging from civil unrest and riots to frontline reporting in conflict zones, each presenting distinct threat profiles. As a result, EnGarde’s systems are often designed to bridge the gap between stab resistance, fragmentation protection, and ballistic performance.

Balancing Protection and Wearability

One of the key challenges in personal protection equipment is balancing ballistic performance with comfort. If armor becomes too heavy or restrictive, officers may avoid wearing it altogether.

EnGarde addresses this issue by focusing on weight optimization and ergonomic design across its product lines. The company integrates modern ballistic materials with carrier systems intended to distribute weight effectively and maintain mobility.

The emphasis on wearability is particularly important for law enforcement users, who may spend entire shifts in protective equipment. For these users, comfort and flexibility can be just as important as ballistic performance.

European Manufacturing and Supply Chain Stability

Another theme highlighted by the company is the importance of regional production capacity. As global supply chains have become increasingly uncertain in recent years, European manufacturers are placing greater emphasis on local production and material sourcing.

For EnGarde, maintaining manufacturing capabilities within Europe helps ensure reliability and responsiveness for government customers.

European production also aligns with growing policy discussions around strategic autonomy and supply chain resilience within the defense and security sectors.

High-Performance Materials at the Core

EnGarde has consistently focused on integrating top-tier ballistic materials into its products. The company works with globally recognized fiber technologies such as Dyneema and Teijin aramid, both of which are produced locally in the Netherlands and widely used across the ballistic protection industry.

This material-first approach allows EnGarde to balance weight reduction, flexibility, and ballistic resistance. This combination is particularly important for users who rely on armor for extended wear.

Market Trends in Personal Protection

The personal protection market is currently experiencing several major shifts. Law enforcement agencies are demanding lighter armor systems, improved ergonomic designs, and greater modularity in carrier platforms.

At the same time, threat environments continue to evolve, requiring manufacturers to maintain high levels of ballistic performance while reducing weight. These pressures are driving innovation in both materials and product design across the industry.

For companies like EnGarde, maintaining close relationships with distributors and procurement teams remains essential. Direct engagement at trade events provides valuable insight into operational requirements and emerging trends.

Direct engagement extends beyond their manufacturing relationships. A defining element of EnGarde’s approach is its emphasis on personal service and long-term partnerships. The company maintains close relationships with distributors, agencies, and end users, reflecting a belief that protective equipment must evolve alongside real-world operational feedback. This approach is reinforced by consistently strong customer feedback, with high satisfaction ratings highlighting reliability not only in product performance but also in service.

A Platform for Industry Dialogue

Trade shows such as Enforce Tac play an increasingly important role in facilitating these conversations. The event has become a central meeting point for manufacturers, procurement officials, and operational personnel from across Europe and beyond.

For EnGarde, returning to the exhibition provides an opportunity not only to present its latest protective solutions but also to reconnect with partners and gather feedback from the field.

As the European security environment continues to evolve, manufacturers of personal protection equipment will need to balance innovation, supply chain resilience, and practical usability. Companies that can combine these elements effectively will be best positioned to support the law enforcement professionals who rely on their equipment every day.
