PASS 2027 Brings the Global Personal Armour Community to India for the First Time

18th International Personal Armour Systems Symposium to be held September 20–24, 2027, at the Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi

The International Personal Armour Systems Symposium (PASS) will make history in 2027 as the world’s leading scientific forum dedicated exclusively to personal armour comes to India for the first time. The 18th edition of PASS will take place from September 20–24, 2027, at the Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi, bringing together the international community working at the forefront of personal protection science and technology.

Hosted by the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) and the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), PASS 2027 is expected to welcome more than 250 delegates from defence, security, academia, research institutions and industry. The five-day symposium will provide a global platform for exchanging scientific findings, operational experience and new approaches to protecting military personnel, law-enforcement officers and others exposed to ballistic and blast threats.

BodyArmorNews.com is an official media partner of PASS 2027, supporting the symposium by bringing its scientific, technological and industry developments to a global audience across the body armour and personal protection community. As an established specialist publication covering ballistic protection, armour materials, testing, standards and personal protective technologies, BodyArmorNews.com will provide dedicated visibility to PASS 2027 and its participants before, during and after the event.

The Premier Scientific Forum for Personal Armour

Established in 1990, PASS has developed into a unique international meeting point for scientists, engineers, medical specialists, test professionals, manufacturers and end users involved in personal protection.

The symposium addresses the complete protection system rather than focusing solely on armour materials. PASS 2027 will feature research and discussion covering body armour, helmets, blast protection and the associated medical and forensic implications of ballistic and blast events.

With threats and operational requirements continuing to evolve, personal armour developers face the challenge of improving protection while controlling weight, bulk and the impact of protective equipment on human performance. PASS provides an important forum in which researchers, defence organizations, manufacturers and users can examine these challenges together and share evidence that can influence the next generation of protective systems.

The 2027 symposium will continue this tradition by connecting fundamental research with testing, product development and real-world operational requirements.

Scientific Contributions Invited

Researchers and technical specialists are invited to contribute to the PASS 2027 scientific program.

The current call for papers requests a 500-word, one-page extended abstract, with proposals to be submitted through the symposium’s online submission portal. According to the official PASS 2027 website, the current abstract submission deadline is October 1, 2026.

Selected contributions will form part of a program designed to present new research, encourage technical debate and create opportunities for collaboration between specialists from different disciplines and countries.

For researchers working on armour materials, ballistic performance, helmets, blast effects, injury mechanisms, testing and evaluation, human factors, medical analysis and related areas of personal protection, PASS 2027 offers an opportunity to present work directly to a highly specialized international audience.

Industry Meets Science

An important feature of PASS is the interaction between the scientific community and the companies responsible for translating research into operational protective equipment.

PASS 2027 will include a dedicated industry component, giving manufacturers, material suppliers, testing organizations and technology developers an opportunity to present advanced personal protection products, materials, equipment and supporting technologies to the international PASS community.

This combination of scientific presentations, operational perspectives and industry participation is central to the symposium. It enables researchers to better understand real-world requirements while allowing manufacturers and users to engage directly with new scientific developments that could shape future body armour and personal protection systems.

Through its role as an official media partner, BodyArmorNews.com will help extend that exchange beyond the event itself, highlighting key research, technologies, organizations and industry perspectives emerging from PASS 2027 to readers worldwide.

A Landmark PASS in New Delhi

The decision to bring PASS to India for the first time represents an important milestone for the symposium and reflects the increasingly international nature of research and development in personal protection. The selection of New Delhi also provides an opportunity to strengthen connections between the established PASS community and India’s extensive defence research, academic and industrial ecosystem.

Hosted at the Manekshaw Centre, PASS 2027 will provide five days of technical exchange, professional networking and international collaboration focused on one central objective: advancing the science and technology that protect people against increasingly complex threats.
