In an era where globalization has made outsourcing the norm, many body armor companies are proudly bucking the trend by emphasizing their commitment to local production. Whether for economic, ethical, or environmental reasons, businesses are increasingly spotlighting their local roots as a key differentiator in their industries.
From small artisans to large manufacturers, these companies are championing the value of producing closer to home. For them, “Made Locally” is a statement of integrity, community investment, and a promise of craftsmanship that resonates deeply with today’s consumers. BodyArmorNews.com checked how producers display their manufacturing practices and whether ”Made Locally” isn’t just an empty marketing slogan.
We have everything done in-house. Even the handles and the frames, we are doing this ourselves.
Established in 2010, this Malaysian-based manufacturer has become a standout player in the defense and tactical gear industry. Proud of its roots in Malacca, the company emphasizes that all manufacturing is done locally and in-house, ensuring quality and transparency. In an interview for BodyArmorNews.com, the company’s sales director Frederic Kerbaum, talked about the advantages of local production. In this article, we explore how Composites Solutions’ global reach is anchored in local expertise, how they manage to adapt to market demands, and why they are so passionate about showing the world that “Made Locally” is synonymous with integrity and reliability.
There is Nothing to Hide
First and foremost, local production ensures tighter quality control and transparency, allowing companies to oversee every step of the manufacturing process and guarantee that products meet their standards.
”This is all our own production, and we have a lot of people who come to Malaysia and visit the factory. They really come a lot to see that this is all produced, because they had a lot of bad experiences in the past… But it’s not the case here. There are no components from China. I always tell them, if you like, please, you are more than welcome. Please, visit us, so we have a look into the factory. That is a very big important point for our marketing. There is nothing to hide…,” says Kerbaum when asked about the factory based in Malacca.
Customized Body Armor At Composites Solutions
Apart from transparency and control over each product’s quality, local production allows for greater flexibility and customization, enabling businesses to quickly adapt to customer needs and provide tailored solutions that are often difficult to achieve with outsourced production. Composites Solutions also has a dedicated Research and Development department which continually enhances their offerings.
The company exemplifies this commitment to customization with its impressive lineup of insert plates, catering to protection levels from III-A up to VPAM10. Each design is thoughtfully offered in both ICW (In Conjunction With) and Stand Alone formats, enhancing the company’s extensive insert plate collection. What sets them apart is their flexibility in adjusting dimensions and shapes, with options like SAPI Cut, Shooters Cut, Full Cut, and Swimmers Cut, as well as contour choices, whether single or multi-curved. Customers can also select from finishing options in Nylon or Polyurethane. In addition to this existing range, Composites Solutions is fully equipped to develop, design, certify, and manufacture new insert plate designs tailored to specific requests.
Apart from ballistic plates, Composites Solutions has also developed a wide range of ballistic shields available in various dimensions, cuts, and finishes. Each one can be customized to fit the specific environment in which it will be used. As the Sales Director highlights in an interview, Composites Solutions delivers on their promise to do things “exactly as their partner wants,” all while maintaining a quick turnaround and a keen attention to detail. This flexibility is possible due to monopoly on each part of the production process.
”If somebody comes to us and says, I need in one, two, three days, I need this and this sample to go to this product, we make this happen… And that is very important, especially in times where supply lines are getting a critical problem. That is not a problem for us. We don’t have this problem. We have good suppliers. And we have everything done in-house.”
By choosing to manufacture locally, Composites Solutions is not just delivering high-quality body armor; the company is actively contributing to the economy, fostering community investment, and creating a ripple effect that benefits everyone involved. This commitment to local production is more than just a business strategy; it’s a promise to their community and a testament to the belief that responsible business practices can lead to a brighter, more sustainable future for all.
“A lot of people try to outsource work to save money. And we made exactly a different thing. We invested in the company. We put in principle the capability,” says Kerbaum when asked about the biggest source of pride in Composites Solutions.
In an industry where outsourcing is common, Composites Solutions demonstrates that local production can be a powerful advantage, offering greater transparency, flexibility, and quality control. Their commitment to “Made Locally” is not just a slogan but a testament to their integrity and dedication to responsible, sustainable business practices.
