World’s Largest Independent Body Armor Test Laboratory

Baltimore, MD – H.P. White Laboratory, Inc., the world’s largest independent test laboratory of body armor, today announces that the National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP) has awarded HP White accreditation to the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) 0101.06, Sec.6 Flexible Armor Conditioning Protocol; fortifying the lab’s existing ISO/IEC 17025:2005 Scope of Accreditation (NVLAP Lab Code: 200825-0). HP White joins a handful of NIJ certified ballistic testing laboratories that can conduct the required environmental conditioning of personal body armor, in addition to the ballistics resistance testing required for NIJ 0101.06 body armor certification.

HP White performs certification testing to specific NIJ body armor-performance standards, through Certified Test Programs administered by the National Law Enforcement and Corrections Technology Center (NLECTC). The first NIJ certified ballistic laboratory, HP White today is one of the only NIJ certified laboratories that has full service capabilities under one roof for NIJ environmental conditioning, and ballistic and stab resistance requirements for body armor.

“Since 1972, HP White has been conducting body armor testing for NIJ and its predecessor the National Institute of Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice,” said Mike Parker, president, HP White. “Through the years HP White continues to evolve its operations with the NIJ programs and customers’ needs. This NVLAP accreditation will provide our customers with more efficient NIJ testing cycles, and faster throughput and market readiness of their products.”

HP White’s Scope of Accreditation also includes NIJ 0101.06 Sec 5 Hard Armor Conditioning Protocol, and Sec 7, Ballistic Resistance of Body Armor, Ballistic Test Methods, as well as NIJ 0101.04 Ballistic Resistance of Body Armor. NVLAP performs periodic independent appraisals of HP White’s ballistic test laboratory and quality management system. NVLAP assesses HP White’s test competency through onsite audits and proficiency testing, and confirms that HP White meets or exceeds all the requirements of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Standard 17025, General Requirements for the Competence of Testing and Calibration Laboratories.
